Varsity Baseball: Dantzler Homers, Harris Shuts Out 7A Oakleaf

A solo home run was all the offense Brayden Harris needed as he shut out the #33 team in the state of Florida – and the #9 team in Class 7A – when TCA Conquerors Varsity Baseball defeated the Knights of Oakleaf High School 3-0 Monday night in Orange Park.

In a game added to the schedule just the night before due to two rainouts at the end of last week, Harris (W:1-1, 1.07 ERA) shut out a previously undefeated team that averaged 11 runs per game in its 6 wins. Harris pitched a complete game, allowing only 2 hits while walking no one and striking out 14 Knights.

Oakleaf’s biggest threat came in the bottom of the first when Devin Outlaw singled to start the game. He then stole second and advanced to third on the same play – all with nobody out. Harris, though, struck out three men consecutively to get out of the inning and keep Outlaw at third.

Two consecutive 1-2-3 innings followed for Harris. Oakleaf got two runners on board in each of the fourth and fifth innings, but Harris ended each inning with a strikeout. Harris then struck out the side in the sixth and had his fourth perfect inning of the night in the seventh to finish the shutout.

Logan Dantzler homered (1) when he blasted a solo shot over the left-field fence in the top of the third to give the Conquerors a 1-0 lead.

Trinity scored single runs in the fifth and seventh. Andres Vazquez brought in Eric Fouraker (reached on error) with a RBI grounder in the fifth, and Dantzler (double) scored his second run of the night when Colton Avera’s hard grounder in the seventh was booted.

Dantzler’s final line reads 2 for 3, HR, 2B, RBI, 2R. Avera, Alonzo Austin, and Jacob Miller also hit safely for the Conquerors, who were held to only five hits.

Oakleaf’s Jordan Clarke (L:2-1, 1.37) was effective in his five innings on the mound, allowing only two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking three and fanning six.

The Conquerors (4-2) will play two at home against out-of-town teams on Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, it’s TCA versus Tennessee 4A Ravenwood (0-0) from Brentwood at 10:00 a.m. On Thursday, TCA hosts Panama City’s Bozeman High School (6-0) at 11:00 a.m. Both games are scheduled to air on TCA’s Mixlr audio channel.

Bartram Trail (4-3) comes to the Westside at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18.
